Influence of laser hardening modes on the properties of 40X13 steel

We have studied the dependence of characteristics, strength and plasticity, as well microhardness specimens made corrosion-resistant steel 40X13 on modes laser surface hardening by a fiber laser. Depending size scanning spot speed, 3–5 tracks were applied opposite planes sample with overall dimensions 20 × 200 mm. Samples tested for static fracture material samples was in terms depth changed structure. It found that treated all cases brittle nature low level destructive deformations at stresses below tensile original material. The plotted tension diagrams indicate an insignificant effect processing value elastic modulus Studies hardness laser-hardened track along zone structure showed their increase up to 3–4 times compared initial characteristics. results obtained can serve basis studying relationship between heating beam properties hardened zone.
